Monel is a nickel-copper alloy, harder than many types of stainless steel, including A4 316 Stainless Steel. Monel Split cotter pins have many advantages including high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range, even when cooled to the temperature of liquid nitrogen, contrasted with many ferrous materials which are brittle at low temperatures despite their increased strength.
